The Royal Canadian Mint debuted the Gold Maple Leaf coin in 1979 as just the second coin issued to global investors behind the Gold Krugerrand. The Maple Leaf initially had .999 pure gold content that was increased to its now-standard .9999 pure gold content. However, the Royal Canadian Mint has issued the occasional .99999 pure Gold Maple Leaf coin since 2005.
The first of the .99999 pure Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins was a $50 (CAD) coin issued in 2005 by the Royal Canadian Mint and was intended as an experimental issue by the mint to test the high purity level. Since that time, Gold Maple Leaf coins in this .99999 pure content have been issued in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, and 2012.
On the reverse of these coins is an atypical Canadian Gold Maple Leaf design. Many of them have the same design of three maple leaves created for the famed Million-Dollar Maple Leaf coin the mint issued in 2007. This includes three maple leaves connected a singular stem.
The obverse of 1 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins features the right–profile bust of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is captured in this design by Susanna Blunt, the second Canadian artist ever to create a portrait of the reigning monarch for the Royal Canadian Mint. This is the fourth-generation design of Queen Elizabeth II and has been in use since 2003.
All of the 1 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins in this listing are housed inside of protective assay cards that include the purity, metal content, and the weight of the coin.
