The only gap in the set is the absence of a 2009-issue coin. This is because the US Mint did not issue collector Silver Eagles, proof or uncirculated, in 2009.

Amidst the crushing financial crisis of the Great Recession, the US Mint experienced unprecedented demand for the silver bullion versions of the coin in 2009. As the US Mint is mandated by law to meet demand for the bullion coins, all sourced silver blanks and manpower were routed to the production of the bullion version of the coin.

On the obverse of all American Silver Eagle coins in this set you’ll find Adolph A. Weinman’s depiction of Walking Liberty. Weinman created two iconic American coin designs during the early 20^th century revival of American coinage, with Walking Liberty gracing the half-dollar coin and Winged Liberty, better known as Mercury, on the dim.

The reverse of Silver Eagle coins includes the heraldic eagle of the United States. First used on original coins from the Philadelphia Mint in 1794, this design has been updated continuously throughout American coining history. This particular design was modified and refined by John Mercanti, Chief Engraver of the United States Mint until 2010.

Each 1986-2017 Proof American Silver Eagle 31-Coin Set ships inside of a US Mint box and includes a Certificate of Authenticity. The United States Mint produces all of its American Silver Eagle proof coins at the West Point Mint facility, as reflected by the presence of a “W” mint mark on the coin’s surface.
