The Kookaburra, a bird native to Australia and New Guinea, is famous for its call which mimics human laughter. The birds are found in the forests and dry savannahs of Australia. Artfully depicted on this kilo silver coin, the Kookaburra is shown perched on a tree stump. Surrounding this image are stamps denoting the bird, the coin’s weight and purity, and the minting year. This information reads: “The Australian Kookaburra 1 Kilo 999 Silver 1990-2015.”
On the obverse side of the coin is a profile image of Queen Elizabeth II in profile wearing her regal tiara. This artwork was done by British sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley. Her image is complemented by two different finishes. Surrounding the queen are also markings with her name, the country and the coins weight and minting year. This information reads “Elizabeth II Australia 2015 30 Dollars.”
