There are few silver coins for sale as diverse as the Somalia Silver Elephant. Following its 1999 debut as the Zambia Elephant, this coin series within the African Wildlife Collection from the Bavarian State Mint became the Somalia Elephant in 2004. While the Somalia Silver Elephant Series saw significant expansion starting with the 2016 release, the 1 Kilo coin was available prior to that date. Starting in 2016, the major expansion came in the form of fractional-ounce silver coins and additional weights between 1 oz and 1 kilo silver.
Obverse visuals on 2023 Somalia Silver Elephant Coins include the national coat of arms. This design shows the seal of Somalia in the center with its crowned shield, field of horizontal lines, and a single star. The shield is supported by leopards on the sides and boasts spears and leaves crossing beneath.
Reverse images on 2023 1 Kilo Silver Elephant Coins focus on the head of the African bush elephant. In this design for 2023, the head of the bush elephant is shown in right-profile relief as it reaches up with its massive trunk to pull down an overhanging branch and dine on the leaves from the tree. As is common in the series, a depiction of the savanna features in the background.
