The kookaburra has been featured in various Australian poems, songs, and folktales. Its distinctive call is sometimes used as a symbol of the Australian bush or as a backdrop in cultural expressions. The kookaburra has also been featured on Australian coinage and postage stamps. The Perth Mint, for example, produces silver coins that showcase the kookaburra’s image, contributing to its cultural representation.
Since the 1990 debut of the Australian Kookaburra Series, this collection has only ever featured Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. Like many other Perth Mint collections that will be released in 2024, the Silver Kookaburra now features a new monarch for the first time in its history.
His Majesty King Charles III is featured in left-profile relief on the obverse of 2024 Australian Silver Kookaburras. The portrait shows Charles III wearing a suit and lacks a crown. The lack of a crown, and change to left-profile relief, are common changes to monarch portraits when a new individual ascends to the throne.
A kookaburra is depicted in the reverse field of 2024 1 Kilo Silver Kookaburra Coins. This year’s design depicts the namesake bird in flight as it flies over a gorge with a small snake in its talons. This field includes both the micro-laser engraved security letter and the P125 mint mark.
All 2024 1 Kilo Australian Silver Kookaburra Coins offered here come in individual protective capsules. The coins are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and boast a micro-laser engraved security letter on the reverse visible only under magnification. The P125 mint mark on the reverse honors the 125th anniversary of Perth Mint’s founding.
