In total, there were five Tudor monarchs between 1485 and 1603. Henry Tudor established the dynasty after the Wars of the Roses and reigned as King Henry VII. His son, King Henry VIII, is one of the two most notable monarchs from the dynasty. Henry VIII was succeeded by three of his children: King Edward VI, Queen Mary, and Queen Elizabeth I.

Despite his reputation for brutality, Henry VIII was a patron of the arts and learning. He founded Trinity College, Cambridge in 1546, and was responsible for significant expansions and improvements to the Royal Navy, earning him the nickname “Father of the English Navy.”

On the obverse of the 2024 1 oz Gold Tudor Dragon Coin, you’ll find the first-generation portrait of King Charles III. His Majesty is shown here in left-profile relief and is depicted without a crown on his head. This design was created for The Royal Mint in 2022 by Martin Jennings.

The reverse side of 2024 British Gold Tudor Beasts The Tudor Dragon Coins comes with a depiction of the Tudor Dragon. The Tudors used the Red Dragon of Wales to establish their legitimacy as rulers of England by connecting their lineage, through powerful Welsh families, to the English Royal Family.
