Honoring the 9^th animal in the 12-year Zodiac cycle, the Australian Silver Monkey coin is available in sizes ranging from ½ oz, 1 oz, and 2 oz to 5 oz, 10 oz, and 10 Kilograms in addition to this 1 Kilo coin.

Each of the BU coins in this product listing features no signs of wear and tear, but may feature breaks in the luster, spotted surfaces, or contact marks as a result of the striking process. The obverse side features the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Designed in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley, Her Majesty’s image features on the obverse of all Perth Mint coins, along with an “IRB” inscription below.

On the reverse of the 2016 1 Kilo Australian Silver Monkey coin is the image of an adult and young monkey. Sitting in a peach tree together, the younger monkey holds a peach in its palm. Engravings include “Year of the Monkey,” the “P” mint mark, and the Chinese character for monkey.

Perth Mint is a state-owned entity of the government in Western Australia. Originally owned by the British Royal Mint, it was not transferred to Australian control until 1970. Its coins are considered legal tender in Australia under the Currency Act of 1965.
