When the Chinese Mint introduced the Gold Panda coins in 1982, the mint offered the coins with a face value of ¥100. This was the case from 1982 to 2000. From 2001 to 2015, the Chinese Mint adjusted the face value upward to ¥500. In 2016, the face value of the coins remained the same, but the mint introduced a new change.
This time, the Chinese Mint’s change for the coin program was significant in that it began to issue the Chinese Gold Pandas with a weight in Grams. The 1 oz coin was replaced at that time by a 30 Gram coin that actually features a nominal gold weight below 1 Troy oz at .9645 Troy oz.
On the reverse of 1 oz Chinese Gold Panda Coins is the image of a Giant Panda. The Chinese Mint uses a different design of the Giant Panda on the reverse each year, making each date mark unique as a result.
The obverse of all Chinese Gold Panda Coins includes the design of the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. This building is the largest structure in the Temple of Heaven Complex in south-central Beijing.
