  • 30th-anniversary date mark for the Silver Kookaburra coins!
  • Unlimited mintage through the 2020 calendar year!
  • Contains 1 Kilo (32.15 Troy oz) of .9999 pure silver in BU condition.
  • Issued a face value of $30 (AUD) by Australia.
  • The obverse design field includes the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the original 1990 design for the series.
  • On the reverse is a new design depicting the kookaburra on a rooftop at daybreak.
  • Jennifer McKenna created the 2020 reverse design.

When the Australian Silver Kookaburra debuted in 1990 it was the first major bullion coin from the nation to feature native animal species on the reverse field. That year featured only a 1 oz silver coin that had a face value of $5 (AUD) rather than the now-common $1 (AUD) value. 1991 also featured only a 1 oz coin with the $5 (AUD) face value, but change was on the horizon.

This historic program expanded in 1992 to include 1 Kilo, 10 oz, and 2 oz options alongside the 1 oz coin. This was also the year in which the 1 oz coin was revalued to $1 (AUD). This trend continued until 2009. That was the last year in which the 2 oz coin was available in the series. Since that time, the program has consisted of three weights.

On the reverse of these 2020 1 Kilo Australian Silver Kookaburra Coins is a new depiction of the kookaburra. The largest member of the kingfisher species is depicted here on the roof of a home with the sun rising over the horizon in the distance. Stylized rays from the sun reach to the edge of the design field. Notable inscriptions on this side include the “P” mint mark of the Perth Mint, McKennas initials of “JM,” and the note of 30th Anniversary” along the bottom rocker.

The obverse of 2020 Australian Silver Kookaburra Coins features a unique design for the 30th anniversary. In addition to dates of “1990 2020,” this side includes Stuart Devlin’s 1990 design for the Silver Kookaburra in the center with a small circular field at the top housing the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II from Jody Clark.

These 2020 1 Kilo Australian Silver Kookaburra Coins are available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The 1 Kilo coins are available in individual acrylic capsules and have an unlimited mintage through the end of 2020.
