Asahi Refining has been making waves in the silver precious metals marketplace over the past year, purchasing the operations of a company with more than a century of experience and brand recognition, and then releasing its own products. Right now, the first gold bars from Asahi are available in the form of the 1 oz Asahi Refining Gold Bar.
Bar Highlights:
- This product listing guarantees a serial number between 1 and 1,000! Please note we cannot take requests for specific serial numbers.
- Each bar ships in a sealed plastic card, including an Assay certifying authenticity.
- Contains 1 troy ounce of .9999 pure gold.
Johnson Matthey had existed since the mid-19th century following its founding in London, England. The company had expanded over the course of more than 150 years to feature operational facilities in North America, with two locations in Canada and one in the US.
In December 2014, Tokyo-based Asahi Ltd. announced a planned deal to purchase all of Johnson Matthey’s operational capacity for roughly $162 million (USD). Johnson Matthey was leaving the precious metals market entirely, and Asahi was boosting its global image in the market.
Each of these 1 oz Asahi Refining Gold Bars represents the first gold offering from the new mint operators. These bars each have individual serial numbers stamped on them to identify them as part of the refinery’s First 1,000 gold bars released in this weight.
On the obverse you’ll find the Asahi Refining logo at the top, an oval with the words “Asahi SLC” around the outside and the purity of “9999” in the center. At the bottom of the obverse face is the individual serial number of each bar. The reverse face of the bar features a repeating pattern of the Asahi logo.
Asahi Refining started as a Japanese company specializing in collecting scrap precious metals a recycling them for use in other precious metal refining operations. The deal to purchase Johnson Matthey facilities gave Asahi Refining control of the Salt Lake City, Utah refining location, Brampton, Ontario, Canada refining location, and a support facility in St. Catharines.
