After introducing the Gold Maple Leaf in 1979, and expanding it initially in 1982, the Royal Canadian Mint drastically expanded the Canadian Maple Leaf Series in 1988. This year saw the first-ever striking of both the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf and the Canadian Platinum Maple Leaf. While the Platinum Maple Leaf was initially available with fractional-ounce weights, as of 2009, it is available only as a 1 oz platinum coin.
All 2025 1 oz Canadian Platinum Maple Leaf Coins available here are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Individual specimens will arrive in a plastic flip, while multiples of 10 coins arrive in a protective tube. Platinum Maples were available annually from 1988 to 1999, issued in 2002, and then halted until 2009.
Obverse design elements on 2025 Canadian Platinum Maple Leafs include the new bust of His Majesty King Charles III. Introduced on Canadian Maple Leafs in 2024, this left–profile relief of Charles III depicts the monarch without a crown on his head. His Majesty’s effigy was created by Steve Rosati.
Reverse visuals on 2025 1 oz Platinum Maple Leaf Coins feature the iconic sugar maple leaf. The official symbol of Canada, this image was created in 1979 by Walter Ott for the debut of the Gold Maple Leaf. This image has featured not only on Platinum Maple Leafs, but also on all six weights of Gold Maples, the Silver Maple, and the Palladium Maple.
