The obverse of the 2025 1 Kilo Silver Koala Coin features the first-generation effigy of King Charles III, created by Dan Thorne in 2024. This left-profile portrait shows His Majesty without a crown, continuing a numismatic tradition seen across Commonwealth coinage.
On the reverse, the 2025 Australian Silver Koala design presents a serene depiction of a koala lounging on a gum tree branch. Though often perceived as sluggish, koalas demonstrate remarkable agility when moving between trees, using their strong claws and opposable digits to grip branches securely. Their unique digestive system, which includes an extended cecum filled with microbes that neutralize eucalyptus toxins, allows them to consume a diet that would be harmful to most other mammals.
Despite their largely solitary nature, koalas exhibit a surprisingly intricate territorial structure. Males communicate dominance and define their territory with deep, resonant bellows, especially during breeding season. These calls travel long distances, helping establish hierarchy and attract potential mates while reducing the need for direct confrontation.
Each 2025 1 Kilo Australian Silver Koala Coin is offered in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and is housed in an individual protective capsule. With a larger surface area than its smaller counterparts, the 1 Kilo coin allows for an enhanced appreciation of the fine details in the koala’s design.
